FAQS
WHAT TIME SHOULD I GET TO THE STUDIO?
- SFYS opens its doors 30 minutes before each class. And if you’ve never been here before, it’s a good idea to arrive at least 15-20 minutes before the start of class so we can show you around and make you feel at home.
I’M NEW HERE. DO YOU HAVE CLASSES FOR BEGINNERS?
- Each class at SFYS is designed for most levels—whether you’re a first-time yogi or you’ve been practicing yoga for a while, you can get what you need from many of our classes. While we believe that Yoga is for EVERY BODY, we also understand that every class may not feel right for every-one. We offer a variety of options from heated, unheated, slow, gentle, restorative and strengthening. We have descriptions of each class we offer here.
WHAT IF I’M NOT FLEXIBLE?
- You don’t have to be! Yoga is more than just the asanas (physical postures) and we also understand that you may have goals or expectations that we would love to help you accomplish from a safe and informed place. Just as with anything, the more you continue to practice, the more changes you will begin to experience both on and off your mat.
WHAT IF I HAVE AN INJURY OR MEDICAL CONDITION?
- Let us know and we can chat about all the anatomy things. We LOVE to geek out! We are here to keep you safe. You are in good hands. Make sure your teacher knows of any conditions or illnesses—we can help you with pose variations.
WHAT IF I’M PREGNANT
- Please make sure your doctor clears you for movement-based practices and/or heat, and let your teacher know so we can best answer any questions throughout your pregnancy.
HOW SHOULD I PREPARE FOR CLASS?
- Please make sure you are hydrated, especially if you are taking heated classes. We recommend NOT eating a heavy meal before coming to class. All the movin’ and groovin’ is sure to get your digestive system flowin’ too! *wink ••• If you’re new to SFYS, try to get here at least 15-20 minutes before your first class. That’ll give you enough time to tour our space, chat with your teacher, get your mat set up in the studio room and meet your community.
HOW OFTEN SHOULD I COME?
- All of it. Everything. All of the days, or as much as you want to! There’s no pressure, it’s your practice and your body and we are here to support you along your yoga journey, whatever that looks like.
WHAT CAN I EXPECT THE NEXT DAY?
- If you are just getting back into or beginning a movement practice, odds are your muscles will feel a little sumthin’ sumthin’, but isn’t that with anything in life? Give yourself a few classes to see how you really feel and try various ones to see what your jam is.
HOW LONG IS EACH CLASS?
- Most classes are 60 minutes. Some specialty classes/workshops may be 45, 60, 75, or 90+ minutes. Check the schedule and read the descriptions prior to attending to be sure you are able to commit to the allotted time. Remember, we stay until Namaste (once the teacher dismisses class).
WHAT DO I NEED TO BRING TO CLASS?
- Just yourself, your mat, and water. We have various props, hand towels, cold essential oil spa towels for during savasana. We have extra mats in case you forgot yours, as well as water bottles for purchase. There is a designated changing area and our single restroom available. We do not have showers.
WHAT SHOULD I WEAR?
- Anything that is comfortable to move and/or sweat in. Yoga pants are not a requirement, but your clothing should allow you the ability to move your body in all ranges of motion.
CAN I EAT BEFORE CLASS?
- Eeek. We don’t suggest it. A lite snack, protein bar, or small smoothie may be okay if you are someone who needs sustenance first, but remember, as you are moving your body, all your digestive organs are moving too. What goes in, must come out or up, so be mindful. We recommend eating at least 2 or more hours prior to class or enjoying something after. Please listen to your own body, as every person is different.
CAN I DRINK WATER BEFORE CLASS?
- You can drink water anytime you want. Hydration is important. An overly full, liquid-y belly could get interesting.
WHAT TEMPERATURE IS THE YOGA STUDIO?
- For heated classes, we keep the temperature at a max of 85-95 degrees. For unheated classes, we keep the room at a comfortable temperature.
DO YOU HAVE A MINIMUM AGE REQUIREMENT?
- Yes. You must be 16 years or older to attend any heated classes at SFYS. Teens 13-17 may attend unheated classes, and must be accompanied by an adult/parent/guardian. If you are under 18, you will need a parent/guardian to sign the waiver form prior to taking any classes at SFYS.<
DO YOU HAVE SHOWERS?
- Unfortunately, no. We have a designated changing area and a single use bathroom available.
HOW WILL I KNOW WHEN CLASS SCHEDULES CHANGE?
- We will always make sure to alert you of any changes to our schedule. It won’t happen often, but when it does, we’ll update the website and send out an email with any schedule changes. We’ll also announce changes in class and post them on our social media. Since we just opened, March 2023, we have crafted a schedule that we think will meet the general needs, while making space for small tweaks as we grow.
