My mom often reminds me “you can’t pour from an empty cup.” And it’s true. When you care for yourself – with rest, movement, nutrition, etc. – you’re better able to care for those around you. In my experience, you also experience joy more easily and frequently when you consistently make time for self-care. And joy is where it’s at! — Laura, lover of live music and college football, and big believer in the power of saying “Yes!”
Laura has called Nashville home since 2000, but grew up in Louisiana and has lived in seven different states over the years. A marketing strategist and writer by day, she discovered yoga in 2016 when a friend “dragged” her to a class with hopes of helping her learn to better manage life stress. “My initial response to yoga wasn’t overly positive. The language was unfamiliar; I felt awkward in the postures; and I left feeling frustrated. Despite this, I knew there was something there that I needed in my life…I knew I needed to go back. Four classes later, I was hooked!” Laura says what she appreciates most about yoga is that it’s a practice. “There’s no such thing as perfect yoga. You’re always simply practicing. For me, there’s such power and peace in that.”
Laura completed her 200 YTT in 2021 and continues to learn through regular workshop trainings. As a yoga teacher, her goal is to create a space where every person feels safe, supported, appreciated, and inspired, no matter their experience or capabilities.
